One of the questions we get asked most by new Kowalah parents is “Who are your Kowalah sitters? Where have they come from?” And there is no single answer – we have Kowalahs from a huge range of backgrounds and different Kowalahs suit different families and situations.
In this post let’s look at a few different types of Kowalah! You should remember these are sweeping generalisations and for fun! All Kowalahs have been interviewed, provided two written references and their current certifications are listed on their profiles – ultimately you should choose the Kowalah that suits your family best regardless of their background!
The University Student
The University Student is aged between 18 and early 20’s. They are looking to earn some extra funds to support their student life, but don’t want to commit to a formal shift pattern working in retail or a pub. They like the fact they can revise or write an essay once the kids are in bed. When parents come home you are more likely to see a laptop open than the TV on.
Kids love The University Student because they aren’t that dissimilar in age and they look at them as a big sister or brother. They are great for games, help with parties, and school pick-ups. They are great for kids over the age of 5.
The Teacher works during the day and has a lot of experience with handling rowdy groups of children! They are looking to support their income by working in the evening, weekends, or during school holidays. The Teacher can be ideal for overnight stays that require sole care for up to 24 hours.
The Teacher has a number of additional certifications, including a DBS and first aid certificate.
The Teacher is great for school age kids, and can help guide some evening homework or a project at the weekend.
The Nursery Worker
The Nursery Worker specialises in pre-school kids. They work in a nursery during their day and are looking to earn some extra money around that. They know what its like to look after very young kids from the age of 18 months onwards, playing games, reading books, singing songs.
The Nursery Worker also has certificates from head to toe – including valid DBS, Paediatric First Aid, and Safeguarding Children among others.
The Nursery Worker is brilliant for helping at parties with lots of kids, or help at home with pre-school kids that need constant entertainment!
The Professional spends their 9-5 working behind a desk discussing customer service issues or financial plans. They work on Kowalah to add a different aspect to their work – picking up evening or weekend bookings.
All Professionals have prior experience working with children, either through a previous job, or babysitting for friends and family.
The Professional is ideal for older kids who want to play a game of Uno, or are allowed to stay up to watch a Saturday night TV programme. They might also love to do some baking with the kids!
The Mum has her own family at home, and works on Kowalah to be able to get back into work and bring some of her own income into the family again. Typically she’ll look for evening bookings when Dad is at home and able to look after her own kids.
The Mum is ideal for all ages of kids, especially very small infants and toddlers, because she’s been there, got the medal! She’s also great with kids who might be nervous about having a sitter for the first time,or need some extra support.
